Facebook recently released the Facebook Camera app for iOS. Designed primarily to make it easier to share photos on Facebook, the inclusion of filters invites comparison with another popular photo sharing app, Instagram. And viewed through the lens of Facebook's recent $1 billion acquisition of Instagram, Facebook Camera might be seen as the first step towards swallowing the app whole.
However, there are several differences between the two apps, and Instagram users aren't likely to switch away. Despite this, Facebook Camera may appeal to snappers that might not otherwise use Instagram.

Facebook Camera appears to be largely engineered by the developers from Push Pop Press, which Facebook acquired in August 2011. Push Pop Press was known for its upcoming e-book publishing platform, which used HTML5 and other techniques to creative interactive e-book app platform for iOS. But Facebook bought the company shortly after its first title, Al Gore's Our Choice, was released. Instead of publishing e-books, Facebook planned to instead incorporate Push Pop's technology into Facebook, "giving people even richer ways to share their stories."
