PayPal Broadens Scope and Availability of Mobile Payments:
PayPal today announced several steps it has taken to expand its reach as a payment option within retail stores. First, the company announced that it has signed 15 new retailers to its program, including national chains such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Advance Auto Parts, American Eagle Outfitters, Barnes & Noble, Foot Locker, Guitar Center, Jamba Juice, JC Penney, Office Depot, Toys 'R' Us, and others. This represents a significant increase in its retail footprint. Previously it was available in 2,000 Home Depot stores. PayPal also announced deals with VeriFone and Equinox, which will integrate PayPal functionality into their payment terminals. PayPal believes its system is superior to those based on NFC because it doesn't require hardware upgrades and specially-equipped handsets.
