US Army finally gets ready to take Android phones into battle: Army soldiers using cell phone






The US Army is finally getting ready to deploy hundreds of Motorola Atrix smartphones as part of a secure battlefield communication system, according to a report from Wired. Known as the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T), the network is the culmination of 16 years of research and development, and is expected to begin operational deployment in October. Using standard-issue Rifleman Radios to transmit data, the Android devices provide a sort of military version of Google Maps, allowing soldiers to pin relevant pieces of information and intelligence to a live-updating map that is quickly fed back to "tactical operations centers" on the ground.
