Trade shows and gadget expos are ways for consumers to view and confirm the future devices to feature by competetive manufacturers. Since the CES event early this year, Asus and Tegra have been hinting at a budget-friendly tablet in the works that would retail at only $199. The tablet would measure 7 inches diagonally and have a pixel display resolution of 1280 x 768. This had been rumored to be Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet, which recently had undergone a benchmark test. The test revealed that the tablet indeed had NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex A9 processor. It also runs on the new Android Jelly Bean Operating System, but carries version 4.1 instead of 5.0 as many previously assumed.
At the moment, however, there is no official confirmation that Google will put a $199 price tag on the Nexus 7 tablet. If it does, this will spell bad luck for Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble’s Nook tablet, as the specifications of the Nexus 7 will surely outperform those on these two slates. At least in the $199 price range, the Google Nexus 7 tablet would be a definite winner, possibly with the capability to obliterate the Kindle Fire and the Nook, which both proved to be successful tablets in terms of sales.
This will also mean good news for both Asus and NVIDIA. The creation of a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3-powered device that only costs $199 is solid proof of their capacity to build tablets with good specifications at such a low price and still earning profit at the same time.
Whether the rumor is true remains to be known for now, but all eyes will be on Google during this year’s I/O event place in San Francisco from June 27th to June 29th. The event is expected to be where Google will launch the Nexus 7 tablet and put an end to all rumors surrounding the mysterious tablet.
