LG now has a voice recognition software counterpart for Samsung’s S Voice and Apple’s Siri called Quick Voice. The feature will be available soon on the line of LG Optimus phones such as the upcoming Vu, which will be released this June, and the LTE II, which will arrive next month.
The feature combines voice recognition and virtual assistant functionalities, a lot like Siri and S Voice do, by allowing users to access smartphone functionalities by means of voice input. LG is launching it with support for 11 apps, including text message, voice call, alarm, calendar, and phone book.
Moreover, it enables users to perform web searches, and get updates on the weather and stocks. Korean users also enjoy an exclusive feature that permits them to check the lunar calendar using Quick Voice. It remains to be seen whether this will eventually be available for other international users.
LG claims that a strong feature of Quick Voice is its ability to comprehend natural conversational language. Essentially, it appears that Quick Voice will ask a series of question to know what the users want to do, and the questions become more and more specific.
At this point, we do not know how Quick Voice differs from the voice recognition software already available from Samsung and Apple. Moreover, the list of languages that Quick Voice will support is also unknown, or even whether it will be offered for international users of LG smartphones.
Nevertheless, it is reassuring to know that LG is truly taking the task of developing their smartphones seriously. The South Korea-based firm recently disclosed that it had decided to invest its efforts in developing smartphones at the moment, instead of competing in the tablet market that is dominated by Apple.
This development furthermore underscores the increasing significance of voice recognition software in the growing mobile device market. Other companies today are probably hard at work with their own offerings to rival Siri, S Voice, and now, Quick Voice.
