The list of companies attending the Google I/O 2012 is available for perusal. For Android fans, what is most interesting about that list are those companies who are slated to demonstrate new apps and services as part of the Developer Sandbox.
Last year, the list included developer teams which mostly dealt with Android Honeycomb products and tablets based on Honeycomb. This year, in contrast, the list seems to be a more general mix of developers.
Here is the full list of companies presenting Android-related apps and services this year: AndEngine, Application Resource Optimizer (ARO), ARM, cloud.tv, Code Factory S.L., Crittercism, Ekata Systems, Inc., Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Expedia.com, Funf: Open Mobile Sensing, GREE/Funzio, Hipmunk, HyperDevbox, Immersion, iNiS, Intel Corporation, JetBrains, Kinetic Bytes, Komodo OpenLab & the Inclusive Design Research Centre, MobileBits GmBH, National Braille Press, NVIDIA, Onavo, Pebble, Pinterest, Inc., Pocket, Pulse, Revision3, SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD., TED, Testdroid, Texas Instruments, TinyCo, TourWrist, Unity Technologies, YoYo Games, and Zipline Games.
It is apparent from the list that Android has a lot of stakeholders, including game developers like Electronic Arts, YoYo Games, and Epic Games. Likewise, the presence of manufacturers of hardware like ARM, Intel Corporation, and Texas Instruments may be seen. Lastly, developers of apps which provide services via the Google Play are on the list, such as Pocket and Pulse. Pinterest, the maker of the content-sharing social network, is notable since it might finally bring its service on Android-based devices.
This year’s Google I/O 2012 is particularly exciting because the newest iteration of the Android OS is expected to be finally unveiled. The OS will purportedly be version 4.1, which would means that it is a minor upgrade from Ice Cream Sandwich, or 5.0, signalling a large departure from the current OS.
The event will take place this coming June 27th to 29th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Other attendees are companies involved in developing Chrome, Google+, App Engine, among others.
