Video hardware maker Matrox announced on Monday that it plans to ship a Thunderbolt docking station geared toward ultraportable users in September. Dubbed the DS1, it will allow Thunderbolt-equipped notebook users to connect monitors, storage, networking gear, and other devices to a single Thunderbolt port.
The Matrox DS1 provides audio in/out minijacks, 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, and DVI video. Matrox is marketing the DS1 to users of the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and upcoming Windows-based ultrabooks equipped with Thunderbolt.
"Today's MacBooks and Ultrabooks are powerful enough for most corporate users but their limited connectivity makes them inconvenient," Matrox's Alberto Cieri said in a statement. "The new Matrox DS1 docking station easily enables the creation of an ergonomic workspace and brings much-needed expandability for printers, scanners, storage, smartphones, optical drives, cameras, flash drives, and other peripherals."
