When news broke out that a China-based company had just developed the world’s thinnest smartphone called the Oppo Finder, one of the questions that first emerged was: how would does it cost?
Last month, it was rumored that the 6.65 mm thin Android device would retail for as much as 3,999 Yuan or around US$630. Some surmised that this was too costly for a smartphone, even if it were the world’s thinnest.
However, the official price of the smartphone had just been released, ending all previous speculations. The Oppo Finder has a price tag only 2,498 Yuan or about US$395. This comes with a one-year warranty.
As for its specifications, the Oppo Finder runs on a Qualcomm Xiaolong the Snapdragon MSM8260 dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1536MHz. Its GPU is Adreno220 while its RAM is a full gigabyte. For storage, it is packed with 16 GB of free space.
The device comes with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED plus capacitive touchscreen display that has a screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, support for multi-touch gestures, and 16 million colors. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is its operating system. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
This phone that weighs only 125 grams is also loaded with dual cameras. A front-facing one sports a 1.3 MP sensor while a rear-facing one has an 8 MP sensor. The latter features an LED flash, 1080p video recording, and a maximum image size of 3264 × 2448 pixels.
The Oppo Finder reads a host of file types and has built-in games and instant messaging. It furthermore comes with productivity applications like Adobe PDF reader, Quickoffice, and TXT. Out of the box, the device comes with a free headset, a charger, and a manual.
It is unknown, whether the device will be available outside of China, but if it does, it will be interesting to see how it competes with the other available smartphones.
