Wada: If FFVII Were Remade Now, the Franchise “Would be Done With”

Wada: If FFVII Were Remade Now, the Franchise “Would be Done With”:

Beg and plead all you want, but Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada is sticking to his guns, as the company will continue to focus on creating new Final Fantasy titles rather than revisiting the old.

Not long ago, Tetsuya Nomura issued a statement to Famitsu regarding Square’s future plans for the franchise, noting that “new titles take precedence,” so gamers shouldn’t expect a Final Fantasy VII remake any time soon.
Wada elaborated on these statements during their annual shareholder’s meeting (via Andrisang), explaining that while they hope to remake the game sometime down the line, they don’t want to do so until they managed to surpass the quality of FFVII. He went on to add that he and his colleagues fear that if they were to remake the beloved classic before they ever managed to truly exceed beyond it, the Final Fantasy franchise “would be done with.”
While it may be a tough pill to swallow, Wada does make a solid point. After gamers get an HD remake of arguably the studio’s best title, what’s to keep fans tied to the franchise following its release? If Square can’t outdo themselves with a completely new installment before then, it will likely just be a downhill demise for the series after the game’s release. Some may argue it’s headed that way anyway, but if Square can manage to reignite faith back within their fan base, then there’s still hope.
Do you think there’s still a bright future for the Final Fantasy franchise, or should Square just give the fans what they want and call it a day? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.
