Did Apple feel threatened by the prospect of music streaming service Spotify coming to the US? Spotify Director Sean Parker believes it did—and perhaps still does. Parker said at this week's All Things D conference that "[t]here was some indication" that Apple might have tried to stop Spotify from expanding from Europe into iTunes' home territory in the US, citing discussions with people in the music industry.
The comments about Apple's alleged actions were brief—according to Reuters, Parker was responding to a question from Walt Mossberg about whether Apple had attempted to block Spotify's US entry. Parker was on stage with Spotify CEO Daniel Ek when the question was asked. "The query prompted a moment of silence and awkward glances between the duo, before Parker volunteered to answer," wrote Reuters.
"There is definitely a sense in which Apple was threatened by what we were doing," Parker said.
