What Does Sony Have Up Their Sleeves For E3?:

With Sony’s E3 conference only a few days away, the platform holder has been spewing game announcements left right and center. So why aren’t they keeping everything for E3?

First off, let’s take a look at what has been revealed so far:

March 22nd – LittleBigPlanet Karting revealed for PS3
April 19th - God Of War: Ascension revealed for PS3
April 27th – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale revealed for PS3
April 30th – God Of War: Ascension multiplayer confirmed, The Unfinished Swan confirmed for PSN
May 9th – Soul Sacrifice announced for Vita
May 18th – Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time confirmed for Vita
May 23rd – KickBeat announced for Vita
May 25th – Jet Set Radio announced for Vita, When Vikings Attack announced for PS3 and Vita
May 29th – Snapshot announced for PS3, Vita
May 30th – Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault announced for PSN, Guacamelee! confirmed for PS3, Vita
May 31st – Sports Champions 2, Dance Party Hits revealed for PS3

Ok, so some of those reveals aren’t exactly going to set the internet on fire, but announcements like a new God of War, that it has multiplayer, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Ratchet and Clank are all huge announcements that would have massively helped ensuring Sony has a killer E3. And it’s not just PS3 games being shown to leave space for the Vita – Sly Cooper was a nice surprise, and the fact that Mega Man co-designer Keiji Inafune is working on a Vita only game (Soul Sacrifice) was a huge reveal. The platform holder has also gotten the obligatory “we still care about the Move” announcements of Sports Champions 2 and Dance Party Hits out of the way.
It really does seem like Sony is giving each of these titles there time to shine to make way for something big at E3. But what could it be? The heavily rumored cloud gaming buyout would certainly be a big reveal (especially if it had been a surprise), but it is still a service, and Sony has to show that their focus is on games.
We know there are a few announced games that still have yet to have a proper reveal like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed Vita, but for a real showstopper worthy of announcing so much so soon, it’s possible there is something bigger waiting to be shown. For example, there is a big AAA unannounced PS3 game set to be revealed, so that could be something mindblowing, and there’s a ton of potential unannounced PS3 games out there. The Vita will obviously also get a ton of reveals, but it’ll be interesting to see if there is a standout reveal for the platform like Grand Theft Auto or Metal Gear.
