We have seen a lot of leaked images of next gen iPhone, the iPhone 5. The phone is just round the corner, and a report has surfaced which suggests that the iPhone 5 is already rolling out of production lines in China.
Foxconn, a Taiwanese multinational electronics manufacturing company, has been manufacturing iPhones and iPods on behalf of Apple. Foxconn has been a center of various controversies, including series of suicides in 2010 due to low payouts and another case where Sun Danyong, a 25-year-old male, committed suicide in July 2009 after reporting the loss of an iPhone 4 prototype in his possession. Until now, the end product manufacturing was being outsourced to Foxconn, but sems like Apple has turned to another manufacturing partner, Pegatron. Pegatron was incorporated on June 27, 2007 as a subsidiary of its then parent company, Asustek and is popular for various products including notebooks, netbook computers, desktop computers, game consoles, handheld devices, motherboards, video cards, LCD TVs and several more products.
According to a report by DigiTimes, Taiwanese sources have established that production of iPhone 5 has already begun in Pegatron’s Shanghai factory in eastern China, and the company hopes that the demand generated by iPhone 5 will make up for its losses from decrease in notebook computer shipments.
On the contrary, it was previously thought that Apple’s long term manufacturing partner, Foxconn, will be producing iPhone 5 after teaming up with Sharp, and to back that up, Foxconn’s chief Terry Gou told China times: “The new model (iPhone) will put Samsung’s Galaxy S III to shame.” It could also happen that both Pegatron and Foxconn are involved in manufacturing of the iPhone 5.
iPhone 5 is said to be thinner than the current device as a new technology has been adopted which integrates the touch sensors into the LCD, resulting in the additional touch screen panel being unnecessary. This technology should shave about 15% of device’s thickness, thus putting the phone against Samsung’s flagship phone for 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S III, which uses thin OLED screen technology. The size of screen will be bumped to 4 inches from the previous 3.5 inches. Apple had previously said that 4 inch screen aren’t good on a mobile device, but seems like they have learnt something from Samsung’s sales figures, which have already hit 10 million mark. The next gen iPhone will have a better processor and 4G LTE support. The battery size which Apple is opting for isn’t known yet, but the phone is expected to have poor battery life due to 4G LTE, which of course can be switched off when not needed. Apple claims that iOS 6 will be bringing hundreds of new features on board.
Nevertheless, we hope the end product is top notch and has better build quality than current Apple products. Apple is currently ruling 34% of US smartphone market, and launch of iPhone 5 with iOS 6 is expected to see those numbers climbing up the ladder. How many of you folks are waiting for October?
