Microsoft: 'new Xbox' comments were misunderstood

Microsoft: 'new Xbox' comments were misunderstood:
Microsoft says comments "not understood in their intended context"; were in reference to fall Xbox update, not a new console.
Last week, Microsoft general manager Brian Hall referred to a "new Xbox" in an interview with The Verge. Now, Microsoft has released a statement on the matter, saying Hall's comments were misunderstood. Microsoft says Hall was actually referring to the upcoming Xbox Live fall update, not a new console.

"The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context," a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge. "When Brian mentioned a 'new wave of products,' he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone, and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8, and Xbox SmartGlass."

The analyst consensus is that the next Xbox, as well as the PlayStation 4, will be on store shelves for holiday 2013. A recent 56-page document supposedly originating from Microsoft said the next Xbox would launch in 2013 at $299 bundled with the second iteration of Kinect, among other updates.
