Rise of the Triad remake hits Steam this year

Rise of the Triad remake hits Steam this year:
1994 PC shooter remade by Interceptor Entertainment on Unreal Engine 3 with Steamworks integration, online multiplayer.

Rise of the Triad shall rise again thanks to a remake of the 1994 first-person shooter from Apogee Software, developers of Wolfenstein 3-D and the original Duke Nukem. The new version announced today at QuakeCon is under development by Danish studio Interceptor Entertainment and will land on PC via Steam later this year.

The Unreal Engine 3-based game will preserve much of the original's unique aspects, including five different playable characters, online multiplayer modes, an arsenal featuring weapons like Drunk Missiles and the Excalibat, and a then-unheard of level of blood and gore. It will include Steam achievements as well as full Steamworks integration, allowing users to publish levels and mods they create. "We are all about fast-paced action and this was simply a perfect match for us as fans of old school shooters," said Interceptor CEO Frederik Schreiber.

Keep an eye on GameSpot for more news from QuakeCon as the convention runs through the rest of the week.
